To get to a healthy relationship you must first identify what’s not healthy about your relationship. One of the biggest problems I’ve seen among couples is communication. They don’t talk to each other! As simple as it may sound this is a major obstacle, and can be fixed fairly easily. Make a point to communicate with your partner, you’ll be surprised how they’re going to do the same for you. This step alone can get rid of so much tension in a relationship.
Playing the blame-game is no fun, I’ve yet to hear one couple that improved their relationship by sitting around and bickering at each other over who did what. As fascinating as it can be, and yes I’m sure you’re both right, it’s a bad idea. Relax in tense situations, think about what you want to say, revise that so it doesn’t hurt your partners feelings, then be open and honest.
Having fun together should be a priority. Being around each other in positive situations where you are both happy is going to do wonders for your relationship. Smiling and laughing are very powerful tools, don’t underestimate them! If time is an issue set up a weekly date night, or try do something new every once in a while. It doesn’t have to be expensive to have fun. Going to play miniature golf, hiking, or going out to the lake aren’t expensive but they sure are fun!
